Read MoreOur team understands the importance of protecting yourself and your loved ones against Covid-19. While the NHS has provided vaccines for many, we also offer the private Covid vaccine for those who may not be eligible for the NHS vaccination or prefer a private service. Below, we answer some of the most common questions about getting the private Covid vaccine at our pharmacy.
A private Covid vaccine is the same vaccine used in NHS programmes but is available through private healthcare providers. This option allows individuals to access the vaccine even if they are not currently eligible for the NHS vaccine or would like to receive it sooner through a private route. At Grahame Pharmacy, we offer the private Covid vaccine to ensure that everyone has access to protection, regardless of eligibility.
The private Covid vaccine is ideal for individuals who may not meet the current NHS criteria but still wish to be vaccinated. It’s also an option for those looking to receive the vaccine outside of the NHS schedule. This includes patients who require vaccination for travel, work, or personal reasons. Those who are vulnerable or concerned about long-covid should also consider vaccination, with the private route ensuring that you can get vaccinated sooner rather than later.
There is no difference in the quality, efficacy, or safety of the vaccine administered privately versus through the NHS. The main difference is how it is accessed. The NHS provides vaccines for those who meet specific eligibility criteria at no cost, while the private Covid vaccine is available to anyone who wishes to receive it but must be paid for out-of-pocket. At Grahame Pharmacy, we ensure that the private vaccine follows the same rigorous safety protocols as NHS-provided vaccines.
You can book an appointment using our booking system. If no slots are available this is because they have all already been booked by patients. Slots are released 3 weeks in advance so keep checking for availability. We are unable to add additional slots even if you phone the pharmacy.
At the appointment and before you receive the vaccine you will be asked to answer questions related to your health. You should bring photographic ID and your HSC number. This can be found on a prescription or your medical card.
You will need to wear a mask and clothing that permits the vaccine to be administered to your right or left upper arm. Our pharmacists will be wearing full PPE and the clinic room will be cleaned thoroughly before and after use. After the vaccine has been administered you will be asked to remain in the pharmacy for a few minutes.
Yes, the private Covid vaccine is completely safe and follows the same safety standards as the NHS-provided vaccine. All Covid vaccines have undergone extensive clinical trials and have been approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in the UK. At Grahame Pharmacy, we only administer vaccines that have been thoroughly tested and approved for safe use.
The vaccination process is quick and straightforward. Once you arrive at Grahame Pharmacy for your appointment, you’ll have a short consultation to ensure that the vaccine is appropriate for you. The actual vaccination takes just a few minutes, and afterwards, we ask that you remain in the pharmacy for a brief observation period of 15 minutes to ensure there are no immediate side effects.
As with the NHS Covid vaccine, booster doses may be required to maintain immunity over time. We offer both initial vaccines and boosters at Grahame Pharmacy. The need for a booster will depend on factors such as the specific vaccine you receive, the time since your last dose, and any updated guidance on booster recommendations. We’ll provide you with all the necessary information about follow-up doses during your visit.
After receiving the vaccine, some people experience mild side effects such as a sore arm, headache, mild fever, or fatigue, which usually subside within a day or two. These are normal signs that your body is building immunity. Our pharmacist will provide advice on managing any side effects and answer any questions you may have. Serious side effects are rare, but we will monitor you for a short period after the vaccination to ensure your safety.
Yes, if you’ve already received an NHS Covid vaccine but require additional doses (such as a booster) or wish to be vaccinated for travel purposes, you can opt for the private Covid vaccine. This can be especially useful if your NHS eligibility for further doses has not yet been met but you want to maintain your immunity.
