Why Should you Get the Covid Autumn Booster Vaccine?

Covid Vaccination

COVID-19 vaccinations are secure and reliable. They provide the greatest defence against COVID-19. The autumn Covid booster vaccine in Lisburn continues to offer protection throughout the season, hence keeping you safe and healthy.

Who may receive the COVID-19 vaccine?

The first and second doses of the COVID-19 vaccination are available to anyone over the age of 5.

Some kids between the ages of 12 and 15 and those beyond the age of 16 can also receive a booster dosage.

People over the age of 12 who had their first three doses but still had a significantly impaired immune system can also get a fourth dose.

Types of COVID-19 vaccines

The following COVID-19 vaccines have received current UK approval:

– Moderna vaccine
– Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine
– Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine
– Janssen vaccine
– Novavax vaccine
– Valneva vaccine

Who should get the autumn Covid booster vaccine?

Most people will be given the option to receive a booster dose of either the Moderna or Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.

This indicates that the vaccine you received for your initial two doses may not be the same for your booster dose. Eligible groups include:

– Everyone who is at least 16 years old
– Elderly people residing in nursing homes
– A third primary dose of the coronavirus vaccine will be given to anyone over the age of five who has a seriously compromised immune system at the time of their first two doses
– Those over the age of 12 who have a compromised immune system
– Kids and youths between the ages of 12 and 15 who reside with someone who has a compromised immune system
– Frontline workers in social and health care
– Kids and teens between the ages of 12 and 15 who have underlying medical issues that put them at higher risk of contracting the infection

If you belong to one of these categories, you might have already had a booster dose during the previous fall or winter.

For those who do not have a highly compromised immune system, the first two doses might not have provided as much protection as they can. A higher main dose could aid in providing better protection.

A booster helps the earlier doses’ protective effects last longer. It aids in providing longer-term protection against COVID-19. Additionally, they are successful at raising antibody and cellular immunity up to and above the baseline and peak levels seen after third dose boosters.

People whose immune systems are significantly compromised

Those who had or have the following conditions are among those with a significantly compromised immune system:

– A malignancy of the blood (for example, leukaemia or lymphoma)
– A condition that increases your risk of contracting illnesses
– Immune system deterioration brought on by a treatment (for instance, biological therapy, steroid medicine, chemotherapy or radiotherapy)
– A bone marrow or organ transplant
– A condition or therapy that your doctor states qualifies you for an additional primary dose

An autumn covid booster vaccine for all

The Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccine will be given as a booster dose to anyone over the age of 18. For their booster dosage, children and teenagers between the ages of 12 and 17 will be given the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. If you are unable to take Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna due to medical conditions, AstraZeneca may be prescribed as your booster dose.

Make plans to receive your first and second doses of the coronavirus vaccine if you haven’t already.

The timing of the booster dose depends on when you received your second dose, but you will still need it.

Online booster appointment scheduling

You can schedule an extra primary dosage or booster appointment online if you are 12 years of age or older.

You’ll have to bring one of the following:

– A letter encouraging you to receive an additional primary dosage or booster from your doctor or a hospital specialist.
– A hospital letter describing the illness or therapy that left you with a seriously compromised immune system at the time of your first or second dose.
– A prescription or medication box bearing your name and the date indicating when the medication was prescribed. This must demonstrate that your immune system was substantially compromised at the time of either your first or second treatment.

Is receiving four doses of the Covid-19 vaccination safe?

The fourth dosage of the COVID-19 vaccination in the UK provides great protection by increasing immunity.

For people in the UK who are most at risk, a fourth COVID-19 dose has been made available. This has been done as a preventative measure to keep immunity levels high.

The two vaccinations used in the UK NHS third dose booster campaign were the ones tested in the fourth dosage sub-study: These are:

– Pfizer
– Moderna
